Socks and Underwear Drive
The United Way Montgomery County Center is about to be filled with thousands of pairs of socks and underwear for the community collection drive titled Project Undercover. United Way of Greater Houston centers are collecting socks and underwear for the aptly named project from July 8 to Aug. 2 to distribute to kids entering kindergarten to 12th grade at the start of the 2019-20 school year. This year, the organization is hoping to collect tens of thousands of pairs of socks and underwear to serve about 1,500 kids. Each kid will receive five pairs of socks and five pairs of underwear. Distribution will happen in August the week after the drive ends. Families who qualify for free or reduced lunches for their children can visit the Conroe-based Community Assistance Center, an affiliate partner of United Way.
Community members can drop off clean, sealed packages of socks and underwear at the United Way Montgomery County Center along Lake Front Circle in The Woodlands. Those who wish to donate are encouraged to select not only sizes for elementary school children, but also adult sizes for students in junior high and high school. Additionally, shoppers can donate straight from the organization’s Amazon registry for the drive, which will ship the selected items straight to the center. Several corporate offices in The Woodlands, such as Entergy and Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. have also signed up to host in-house drives to collect items in bulk.
